    • I have been inspired by the materials I have recently come across, namely these stunning Batik bone beads and the chic silver pieces.

    • The resourceful artisans from Kenya used cow bones, which they carved and dyed to resemble the patterns on East African textiles. Wax is applied in the desired pattern on the white bones. The beads are dipped in a thick black dye made from boiled tree sap. When the beads are washed to remove the wax, the dyed pattern remains.

    • There are five strands of these beads, some long cylinders (3cm) and some broad bean shapes at 9mm.

    • The antique silver is from Mauritania, in West Africa. The decorated silver pendant is 3.5cm (1.5”) long, 3cm (1.25”) at its widest point going down to 1.5cm. It is only 3mm in depth. The heavy silver tubes are 2.5cm (1”) long. This is hand worked silver, full of detail.

    • Burgundy coloured bamboo coral beads (14mm and 9mm) are interspersed throughout the strands.

    • Unpolished, mat onyx beads (6mm) are also interspersed within the bone design cylinders.

    • South Korean drum shaped beads (12mm) are etched rhodium silver.

    • A sterling silver, handmade toggle clasp, has been used because toggle clasps are easy to use and secure. My silver name label is attached at the clasp.

    • The necklace comes, like all my necklaces, with its own colour co-ordinated silk brocaded pouch bag, made by a Shanghai tailor.

    • The necklace is 48cm (19”) long with a 3.5cm (1.25”) pendant drop.
