Spectacular Spinach Jade, Dragon Ball Necklace with Carved Bone & Vermeil

- In the centre of this necklace sits a sensational, carved jade, dragon ball, in what is known as spinach jade, named because of its spinach like colour. It is well carved, with a sinuous dragon, weaving its way around the large ball (32mm). It is right that this stunning jade bead should be placed centre forward. The dragon, in Chinese culture, signifies both the Emperor, with his dominance, power and even playfulness; and “Chi” or the universal source of energy.
- It is flanked by two, vermeil discs (20mm), which are repeated throughout the necklace.
- Watery sea green aventurine discs (19m), also punctuate the necklace design.
- Two vintage carved, bone beads (27mm x 31mm), carved with “long life” characters are complemented by two, further, vintage bone beads (29mm), etched with, on one side, poetry and on the opposite side, the wise poets who wrote the verses. I have illustrated these two designs in my photos, which can be worn on either side, or mixed.
- The end of the necklace comprises ten, carved, bone beads (12mm), which alternate with small, vermeil discs (9mm).
- I have used a handmade 14k gold vermeil toggle clasp. Toggle clasps are easy to use and secure. My silver name label is attached at the clasp.
- The necklace comes, like all my necklaces, with its own colour coordinated silk brocaded pouch bag, made by a Shanghai tailor.
- This relaxed, versatile necklace measures 19 inches long (48.5cm).
