    • This is an extraordinary piece of ancient metal in the shape of a leaping deer with his head lifted and his antlers thrown back.  It was also intended as a buckle.  And it is in the style of the Sasanian designs of the 3rd or 4th century.  I purchased this piece on the dealer’s description of a Sasanian buckle.  But as this would be extremely rare, I am content to say, in the style of Sasanian.  However, it is clearly very old, and frankly, wonderful.
    • Sasanian art was produced under the Sasanian Empire, between the 3rd to 7th centuries AD, before the Muslim conquest of Persia. This Empire ruled the are from modern Iran, Iraq and parts of Egypt and Arabia.  The art was influenced by Iran, China and the Mediterranean
    • As you can see from my photos, the deer has rings at the back of the buckle for material to be attached. It measures 3 ½” long by 1 ¾” high and 8mm in thickness.
    • Because it is such a wonderful piece, I could not resist buying it for a necklace design.  The gemstones are from the area of the buckle.
    • Large pebbles of Chrysocolla , 15mm in depth, 1 ½” long, are full of patina and natural patination.
    • Handmade, antique, silvered metal beads are from China. You can see how they are made from the photos; tiny coiled metal circles create the design on each bead, 15mm.
    • A string of turquoise beads, 5mm, counterbalance the size of the chrysocolla with the delicacy of the turquoise. They also add an additional anchor for the metal buckle.
    • A handmade sterling silver toggle clasp has been used because they are easy to use and secure. My silver name label is attached at the clasp.
    • The necklace comes, like all my necklaces with its own colour co-ordinated silk brocade pouch bag, made by a Shanghai tailor.
    • The necklace measures 17 ½”, 45 cm long.
