Antique Gold Seal Graces a Silk Band Necklace

    • The shape of this antique Georgian seal (gold plated on brass, possibly Pinchbeck) is wonderfully ornate. This gold colour never fades. A gold cloth helps to give in a glow. But it remains this gold colour.

    • But it was the delightful carnelian intaglio of a “lady” which transported me to the era of Jane Austin when I first viewed this seal.  The image is indeed very Jane Austin in style.  The seal is just less than 1” long (2.5cm), but it is full of charm and period flavour.

    • It is topped by an antique 18K gold on hardened resin bead, (14mm), made in Afghanistan in the shape of a melon. This was a traditionally made bead from Afghanistan, using techniques learned from when Alexander the Great’s craftsmen came to Afghanistan in 330 BC.

    • Lastly, a vintage, carved carnelian melon bead, 1mm, from Afghanistan completes the design

    • The pendant and beads hang on a handmade taupe silk/polyester band. The band’s clasp consists of a jade bead which fits into one of two stretchable silk rings, enabling the wearer to vary the length. My silver label is attached at the ring.

    • The necklace comes, like all my necklaces, with its own colour co-ordinated silk brocaded pouch bag, made by a Shanghai tailor.

    • The necklace measures 18 inches (45.5 cm) around the band and with the clasp included, with a 1 ½” (4cm) pendant drop.
