Delicate Silver Dragonfly Floats on a Silk Band with Antique Cloisonne & Jade
- It is easy to see, from this sterling silver pendant, how a dragonfly could have easily been mistaken for a fairy. Looking at its gossamer wings, its delicate long body shape, its head and limbs, it almost appears to be a fairy.
- But this vintage silver dragonfly has other interests. It hovers above a tourmaline quartz ring, while its real destination is to reach the blue enamel flower on the antique Chinese, cloisonne bead. A bit of fancy, I realize, but I wanted to capture the flight of the dragonfly whose purpose is to suck the nectar from a flower.
- No detail has been omitted for this finely crafted dragonfly, with its delicate wings, its long tail, the legs and the antenna. It measures 2 ¼” (5.6cm) long, 1 ½” (3.5cm) wide and 11mm deep.
- The ring it hangs from is a wavy, carved ring of tourmaline quartz, 1” (2.5cm) in diameter.
- A 6mm silver bead is topped by a 6mm apple green jade bead, which has also been repeated above the antique, Chinese cloisonne bead (16mm), made of enamel flowers and leaves applied onto Chinese coin silver.
- All the elements hang on a handmade, charcoal grey, silk/polyester band.
- The band’s clasp consists of a jade bead which fits into one of two stretchable silk rings, enabling the wearer to vary the length. My silver label is attached at the ring.
- The necklace comes, like all my necklaces, with its own colour co-ordinated silk brocaded pouch bag, made by a Shanghai tailor.
- The necklace measures 18” (46cm) around the band with the addition of the clasp, with a 4” (10cm) pendant drop.
