Pretty, Chalcedony Disc on Necklace of Moonstones, Rhodonite
- Feminine and rather pretty is how I would describe this necklace.
- A natural, lustrous blue chalcedony Bi disc (1 ¼ inches across by 4.7 mm deep) inspires the rest of the necklace. The Bi disc is a symbol of harmony and long life. But it can also be an emblem for the universal source of energy, known as “Chi”.
- Three 4mm silver beads are followed by two rose coloured natural rhodonite beads (8.5 mm), and two faceted nuggets (11 mm) of natural, sky blue chalcedony.
- Four natural moonstone beads (10 mm) on either side of the necklace, flank two, hand blown rose-coloured glass leaves (17.5 mm x 34.8 mm x 5 mm deep), made by Japanese artists.
- The rhodonite and chalcedony beads continue the pattern.
Rhodonite is a manganese chain silicate which usually creates rosey pink colours. - Chalcedony is a microcystaline quartz with a lustrous, waxy surface. At its best it comes in a violet blue colour.
- Moonstone belongs to the feldspar group of minerals. But more interestingly, its colour is said to resemble the shimmer of moonlight. It also is an emblem of love.
- I have then knotted the silk/polyester cord with the traditional Chinese “flat knot” as well as the “button knot”. This is not only a classical Chinese technique, but it lightens the necklace and makes it quite comfortable to wear. It also sets off the design.

- The necklace comes, like all my necklaces, with its own colour co-ordinated silk brocaded pouch bag, made by a Shanghai tailor
- The necklace is 17 inches long (43 cm) with a 1 ½ inch pendant drop (4 cm)
