A Bold Statement in Amber, Lapis, Amethyst & Brass

Bold is one adjective, chunky is another. Either way, this is a statement in itself, worn with jeans, a jersey or a dress.

All the beads, although very individual, are repeated on the opposite side of the necklace.

But at the centre, sits a wonderful, golden, free form shaped piece of natural amber. It is almost an egg yolk colour with golden markings and an undulating shape (very touchable). It roughly measures 32mm by 40mm and 17mm deep.

Flanking the amber there are two Chinese carved and etched, antique bone discs (27mm).

Large, rough cut, polished lapis stones (33mm x 40mm by 30mm deep) in a vivid natural blue contrast with thick slivers of golden amber (29mm).

Great globes of vintage, handmade brass beads (25mm) from West Africa are followed by

Rough cut, polished amethyst stones (30mm x 25mm by 24mm deep).

Unpolished, mat lapis discs(25mm) are enriched by vintage, hand patterned agate Tibetan beads(25mm).

I have then knotted the silk/polyester cord with the traditional Chinese “flat knot” as well as the “button knot”. This is not only a classical Chinese technique, but it lightens the necklace and makes it quite comfortable to wear.

A 14ct gold vermeil toggle clasp has been used because toggle clasps are easy to use and secure. My silver name label is attached at the clasp.

The necklaces come, like all my necklaces, with its own colour co-ordinated silk brocaded pouch bag, made by a Shanghai tailor.

The necklace is 46cm (18”) long.
