Luminous Lodolite, “Landscape Stone” on Necklace of Lemon Quartz & Silver
- Lodolite is an extraordinary stone. It captures a landscape as if it was painted. Indeed, it is known as the “stone of landscape”. But it is completely natural. Lodolite is a quartz which contains inclusions of the chlorite group. According to the type of chlorite, the attractive inclusions appear in various colours, like green, brown, orange, white, red, pink or purple.
- The name “lodolite” translates as mud stone, from the Spanish, lodo = mud, sludge. Whether this refers to a location in Brazil or the visual appearance of the inclusions, it is not clear. But whatever the meaning, it often creates a cloud of a landscape, a sort of impression.
- And this pendant is no exception. In golds and burnt reds, for me, it is reminiscent of fallen autumn leaves. It measures 1 ¾ ” long (4.5cm) x 1 ½”wide (4cm) x 16mm deep.
- The pendant hangs between handmade, fair trade silver beads(15mm), made by the Karen hill tribes of Thailand, which use pure, 98% silver.
- These are followed by 2 vintage, carved carnelian beads (11mm).
- The main part of the necklace consists of shaped discs of lemon quartz (22mm), and sterling silver, wave discs (12mm) and beads.
- I have used a handmade sterling silver toggle clasp. Toggle clasps are easy to use and secure. My silver name label is attached at the clasp.
- The necklace comes, like all my necklaces, with its own colour coordinated silk brocaded pouch bag, made by a Shanghai tailor.
- The necklace measures 18” long (46cm) with a 2” pendant drop (5cm)
