    • This is a wonderful piece of antique Chinese silk embroidery, circa late 19th century, Ching Dynasty. It displays the skills of both satin stitch and gold thread couching. The bird, which is about to set off in flight, passes pink peach blossoms on a tree. It has been embroidered using the satin stitch and outlined using the complex couching stich in gold threads. More gold thread couching has been used as a decorative border.
    • From the embroidery hangs a vintage (now rare) handmade 18 CT gold on silver on hardened resin bead (17 mm)). This is a traditionally made bead from Afghanistan, using techniques learned from when Alexander the Great’s craftsmen came to Afghanistan in 330 BC.
    • Next, hangs a carved natural lapis melon bead (10 mm).
    • Lastly, continuing the fowl theme, is a delightfully carved white jadeite pendant of a goose with its neck turned back towards its body, as if too preen its feathers. It is 1 1/2 inches long (4 cm), 1 inch high (2.5 cm) and 11 mm deep.
    • The pendants hang on a handmade, midnight blue silk/polyester band. The band’s clasp consists of a jade bead which fits into one of two stretchable silk rings, enabling the wearer to vary the length. My silver label is attached at the ring.
    • The necklace comes, like all my necklaces, with its own colour co-ordinated silk brocaded pouch bag, made by a Shanghai tailor.
    • The necklace measures 45.5 cm (18") round with a 11.5 cm (4 1/2") pendant drop.
